According to the Canadian Cancer Society, an estimated 4,700 Canadians were diagnosed with oral cancer in 2017 alone. This fatal condition has a greater mortality rate than both breast and prostate cancer. The good news, however, is that oral cancer can be successfully treated if caught early on.
Our team at Double Tree Dental Centre is key to early detection. Oral cancer screening is a routine exam that is quick, easy and painless. During this assessment, we’ll provide a thorough examination of the oral cavity. This region consists of the teeth and gums. But is also includes the lips, tongue, roof of the mouth and behind the wisdom teeth. Most oral cancers are located in these areas. Although the cells of the mouth are resistant to damage, repeated abuse from smoking, alcohol or even friction can cause painful sores where cancers can begin.
